The first part of 4014's summer outing. No specifics except it leaves June 30 and will be back in Cheyenne by the end of July.

Notwithstanding all the horsehockey from a recent thread....

Big Boy will journey from its home base in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Sunday, June 30, en route to Roseville, California, before returning to Wyoming by the end of July. It will make numerous whistle-stops in communities along the way, with public display stops scheduled in:

• July 12-13: Roseville, California
• July 20-21: Ogden, Utah

Unfortunately, Burning Man is in late August this year. Too bad the events aren't back to back, I'm sure a lot of foamers would love to do both 😂

I'd assume he means get off the train/give up the chase and go live in the desert until Burning Man

playa is a term for the flats out there,  near Turloch? forget which town,   which last burning man was flooded i say it  ply-ya. none of my information is ever correct

Yeah, he'll have fun with that. I doubt the Indians would take to kindly to a stranger on the reservation. Just ask those brats who got in the way of the Burners last year, and how swiftly the Tribal Police dealt with them. When you're on the Playa, technically you're not in America.

well if the Natives allow burning Man...............i am not much competition............and the Burners needed all the help they could get last year.......some maybe still stuck......think it is BLM land

It's Gerlach, middle of nowhere Nevada.

I'll have to drive down to Southern Idaho for a day to see it... which it was going to Oregon too, but too much "Traffic" supposedly.

Well again OR WA is left out but at least they give a valid reason this time. And the way it seems to be planned just like the almost last year that didnt come off it wont be in at least those two states.

I realize this question can only be speculated on (pending a more detailed schedule from UP)...but based on previous trips west, anyone have best guesses for layovers on the way west? I'm thinking about chasing it west from Cheyenne, possibly as far as Ogden. Wondering if that would likely mean arrival in Ogden on Day 2 (July 1)?

I'll speculate. The schedule is way stretched out, and it's likely the 4014 will hit Pocatello (Idaho) first before going to Ogden on the westward run.

At least one "public display stop" in Wyoming (Green River?), and Pocatello is very likely a candidate for another one, so arriving in Ogden on Day 4 at the earliest is my speculation. Maybe spend the July 4th holiday in Ogden?

You're mixed up. Why would they go to Green River, then back up to Rock Springs? I can't ever remember a UP steam trip that layed over on Green River. It was always Rock Springs, which is about 8 or 10 miles east of Green River. After that, maybe they'll stay in Evanston, prior to going into Ogden.

This is the new and improved steam team.Thinking outside the box for new possibilties.
