Steam & Excursion > Why did UP get rid of all the coaches?Date: 04/23/24 06:37 Why did UP get rid of all the coaches? Author: CO1309 Why did UP give almost all their coaches to RRHMA? Are they greatly reducing excursion capacity? I just found this out from a Facebook post but it seems to have occured months or even years ago.

Date: 04/23/24 08:37 Re: Why did UP get rid of all the coaches? Author: CO1309 I didn't know they got rid of excursions?

Date: 04/23/24 12:44 Re: Why did UP get rid of all the coaches? Author: callum_out So, let's be real, the people on those trains don't ride in coach anyway and the potential coach
passengers aren't welcome! Yah I know, what about employee specials? What do you think buses are for? Out Date: 04/24/24 09:59 Re: Why did UP get rid of all the coaches? Author: CO1309 HotWater Wrote:

Author: dan still have dome coaches, but they are not running railfan excursions like they used, insurance carriers may forbid some clubs from running excursions anymore . that is at least the case with Rocky mtn rr club

Author: webmaster It is a nice accomodation to offer excursions, but in modern times with corporations lacking a soul or any resemblence of being a good citizen we are lucky to have the Big Boy out. I don't think Ed has a say over it. Equipment cost money and UP has been shedding equipment to save the pennies it cost to store and maintain it. At least the equipment appears to be going to a good home.

It was announced on 04/28/2022 In October 2019 for the Rail Giants excursion train to Barstow and back. there was 2 coaches that were left at West Colton because there were not enough sales for them. The domes and other coach cars were adequate for the passenger counts. Thus, there were 3 coach cars actually used however IIRC the 2 that I saw were less than half occupied. Edited 1 time(s). Why doesn't that surprise me since prices were an arm and a leg! Posted from Android Date: 04/27/24 15:42 Re: Why did UP get rid of all the coaches? Author: NSDTK They can always borrow them back if they truely needed them.

Not if one person told corporate we dont need these and we need to get rid of them.. Date: 04/28/24 12:35 Re: Why did UP get rid of all the coaches? Author: dan remember in the 80's when UP sold all those caRS TO MEXICO, THE GUY IN CHARGE OF THE CONVERSION PROGRAM GOT RIDof half the coaches then, thought the each conversion was twice that what it ended up costing.
The coach seats seem to me labor intensive to maintain, if the cars wereever used, and they were due for paint, probably 60k each at mid america car. The heritage fleet. biz cars is a seperate deal from the steam program, the steam program cars did just go to council bluffs in january for regular work in jan, returning a month or so later in their own 3 car train Date: 04/30/24 19:09 Re: Why did UP get rid of all the coaches?
