4-6-4 2816 coverage?
Author: LTCerny

Yesterday was 2816's first day in the US on its trip to Mexico City.  Next two days are Minot to St. Paul.  Are any TO members covering this event?

Pix I've seen had two water cars and three diesels,  including some green/white box, behind the engine.  Bit of a circus train.

Hydrogen unit was dropped off at Medicine Hat

That's a good thing. That Hydrogen unit kills the colors for the train. Is it just me or does the engineer only use the air operated whistle valve for almost every crossing? It sounds horrible.

Will Trains Magazine be covering this trip with a live video feed, at any time?

Any pictures of the special in or around Minot, ND?  Would like an idea of whether the consist without the hydrogen engine still has the F-units as shown in Medicine Hat.

On these ferry trips what is the usual departure time or close to accurate has this  been?

Some might find watching the Youtube video taken today "CP 2816 Climbing up out of Valley City, ND" to be enjoyable.

From Robert Youngblood, 2816 doing most of the work, looks great!

Does anyone know if 2816 is carrying a GPS unit and if the GPS location is available to the public through a cell phone?
I'm assuming all locomotives these days are fitted with GPS so the dispatchers can bring the train up on a screen and know where it's at.
It would sure be easier to track the steam train's progress.
Thank you in advance if you know.

That is probably part of the PTC system. Thus, the "public" would not be able to view it.

Remember, 2816 is fully equipped with PTC.

It was arriving in Humboldt Minnesota (don'tchaknow) about 90 minutes ago if that's any help. If there is no GPS tracking available, FB has a pretty good handle on the wanderings, Epic Wanderings one might say, of the 2816...

Cheers, Dave

The plan for months has been to shoot it next week, and I have the vacation time to do it.  And then effing Union County sent a jury summons.  Needless to say, I am PISSED!

Sure, guys.  You really WANT someone on your panel whose vacation you just blew up.

Mary, if you have a professional reason to be watching the 2816 you should be able to defer your jury duty.

That sucks Mary, I'll be riding no. 4 to see her next week!
