UP 4014 Unofficial Chase Guide Elko to Winnemucca Nv. 7/8/24

Palisade Canyon is all I have to say.
I can not tell you how many times I have Kicked myself in the arse for not catching 3985 or 844 on videotape Westbound, There In the 1990's!, but I had to skip Palisade and opt for other locations west of Palisade due to job priorities mixed with Railfanning along I-80 corridor in Northern Nevada, because it's a bit off the beaten path for train chasing, and will cost you time getting back to the I-80 and then traveling west afterwards.

If you're chasing 4014 to Elko, there's a whole day with nothing to do according to the schedule, on Sunday July 7th, I recommend stay and eat in Elko, Don't gamble your money away, but go to Palisade and back just for kicks, and explore or scout Palisade Canyon. Or even plan to Camp out there if that's allowed there?

From Elko heading West on I-80, take the Hwy 278 offramp, turn Left and follow 278 to Palisade Ranch Road, on sharp right, back in to Palisade Canyon, The turnoff to Palisade comes up pretty quick on your right as your traveling west. You have to turn sharp right, and follow the road north/west, up and over the top of RR tunnels, then drop down into the canyon along the Humboldt River.

AND A WORD OF ADVICE: After 4014 passes, if you're down here in Palisade, PLEASE DON'T PLEASE DON'T try to take the shortcut road over the mountain to I-80, I tried that in the 1990's and it's a real bitch in Hot weather, your vehicle might overheat due to slow speed working uphill, and no air flowing through the radiator PLEASE take the road back to 278 Carlin and I-80 then head West to Winnemucca. 4014 is scheduled to stop in Battle Mountain for 30mins, which might buy you time to pass 4014 on I-80 and make it in time to catch 4014 at Weso crossover?

The date of my post is 7/6/24 which is TODAY,... I'M POSTING AHEAD OF TIME FOR 7/8/24 4014 movement which hasn't happened yet, Have you had more Beers than I 've had overnight? (Hee Haw!)(Woo-Hoo!)
Besides I've gotten over Hot Water's Grammer corrections after he told me that only Airplanes "Take Off", and Trains "Depart", So how about the real meat of my post here anyway?

Only “scheduled” stop tomorrow (Monday) is Carlin at 10 am, that would indicate a roughly 9 am departure from Elko as it’s only 20 miles down the road.
