For me, the best of both worlds (steam and diesel)
Author: EL833

Silverton, Colorado, 06-19-2024...getting off the steam train after a spectacular ride up from Durango, I made my way to this nearby spot to catch my train passing the morning diesel run that had arrived earlier. The steamers are backing up to wye their train after all the passengers had disembarked. Once that move was complete and the train parked in town, the 101/103 Alco DL535 duo departed for Durango and I headed for lunch.

Why does the 476 have that fake headlight and stack on it?

Image of my day. Haven't been to Silverton since 1972, but it's great to see steam and diesel together on narrow gauge with no nimbys or subdivisions in the background. Very, very nice.

Maybe due to Kevin Costner filming Horizons  his new show this summer up there

476 ran with this look in about 1954, after appearing in a movie filmed on the Silverton Branch.  She eventually lost the diamond stack but kept the fake oil-burning headlight for another year or so.

Nice image. I have rode this train twice so far and those rides will be in my memory for a long time.
