Steam & Excursion > Entering the CanyonDate: 07/09/24 01:49 Entering the Canyon Author: funnelfan For each leg of the steam train trip, there are certain locations you know the serious railfans will flock to. Monday was going to be Palisade Canyon. With a lengthy stop at Carlin just before the canyon, it would give time for the ambitious to get into some more remote areas. I had plans to make the short hike from the Eureka Hwy over to the rim of the canyon. But when I saw the new barbed wire fence just off the highway, I changed my plans to catch the train entering the canyon from just off the highway. Me and barbed wire fences don't have a good history, and I didn't want to ruin another pair of jeans. I saw some others also had the same plan that I had originally. So I'll settle for this easier to get angle and a few less holes in my skin.

Out Date: 07/09/24 07:30 Re: Entering the Canyon Author: JDLX I’ll also say great shot!
Note all the green is the riparian vegetation along the river, hillsides are brown. We had a relatively cool and wet spring complete with snow storms up to the first week of June, that allowed snowpack to stay intact really late. The Humboldt and some other area rivers only recently dropped below flood stages. Otherwise the high temps the last couple weeks has pushed upland vegetation into dormancy. The Big Boy and train look great there along the river. MC Date: 07/10/24 08:52 Re: Entering the Canyon Author: Ritzville The easier angle turned out to be an excellent choice.
