Steam & Excursion > UP 4014 Big Boy at Point of Rocks, NE, 28 August 2024

Union Pacific 4014, Alco 4-8-8-4 Big Boy, started the Heartland of America Tour departed Cheyenne, WY, about 9:25 AM, Wednesday, 28 August 2024.  The massive trip started with the Cheyenne, WY, to Sidney, Nebraska, run.  Video east of Potter, NE, at Point of Rocks or AKA Buffalo Bend.  NO sound video.

4th car is named Willie James, UPP 202, Budd car built in 1950 as a 10-6 sleeper and today serves as a crew car.

I think the steam crew has occasionally used this car in the past, so it doesn't surprise me if they're using it again to supplement the UPP 209 "Howard Fogg."

Thanks for the info. I didn't see the Budd fluting in the images.

Try downloading it -- it should then appear as a file called 1801995.mp4 somewhere on your computer. 
Try playing it from there.

What gets my attention more in this video is the idiot driving the blue Ford pickup on the wrong side of the highway, in a no-passing zone, rounding a curve in the highway.  There's our indisputable proof this driver should get the Darwin Award this year.  Nice video, though...

The fllowing was lifted from the Utah Rails web site. 

1. "Pacific Bay" to "Pacific Light" (25 cars) were delivered in UP's standard yellow and gray paint scheme.
2. "Pacific Lodge" to "Pacific Waves" (25 cars) were delivered in UP's two-tone gray paint scheme; repainted in 1952 to UP's standard yellow and gray paint scheme.

Beautiful crisp sharp image, but video plays stuttering on my device (Android with Chrome browser).
Haven't tried viewing on my PC yet.
Perhaps uploaded in 4k resolution or UHD? (Some devices and video player software still has a hard time playing 4k or Ultra High Definition video)

I have a very faint fragmented memory of riding on a yard switcher with Dad at old Colton, Calif. yard, at a very young age like yours there, maybe younger?

I agree, we had a 14 year old boy and a 47 year old women killed this week in San Jose by a driver on the freeway going south in the northbound lanes.
I am sure the driver is not paying attention to the road and a innocent driver going in the opposite direction is also looking at the train not the road in front of him.
It never fails to amaze me how selfish a very small group of rail fans are spoiling it for the rest of us. Patrick

Can't tell you how much of that I've seen from the Fireman's seat on 8444/844 and 3985. One of the worst offenders was "Mr. Toyota" (our boy dan here on TO), and a Road Foreman of Engines even called the Highway Police on him. Totally crazy!
