More East Broad Top Railroad progress
Author: RuleG

Today, the East Broad Top Railroad posted on its Facebook page a video of #16 crossing Pennsylvania State Route 475.  This is the first locomotive to cross this highway since 1956!

Contractor did a nice job on that crossing and the new track looks great especially considering
what was there a year or so ago.

No contractor on that crossing.  EBT employees and Friends of the East Broad Top volunteers did the work rebuilding the crossing.  Paving of the road was the only thing out sourced.

For those of you who are not on FB, here is a screen shot of #16 crossing Hwy 475 yesterday on its shakedown run.

See… more incorrect information being spread.

What is "false"?  A contractor did the paving, and appears to have done a VERY nice job.

I've marked my best guess about where the EBT and FEBT have progressed on the "March to Saltillo".  They're making great progress!

OK, but...

Isn't paving (in this case) part of the crossing?

So I might be wrong, I'm only looking at a photo of the crossing pre asphalt but I doubt that the Friends
did the prep on both sides of the crossing and as mentioned certainly didn't do the actual paving. Those
are the items I was referring to in my congratulations. Compared to much of the asphalt work we get
out here, that's very nicely done.

I'm not a Facebook subscriber but you can get some views and info anyway without being one. Below is the link to #16 and the crossing now and before photos, just scroll down. Unfortunately, and just posted at the time of my post, is news that #16 has developed "a minor but persistent issue" during its 11am excursion that will keep it out of service this Labor Day weekend. Scheduled service will be met using their diesel.

The paint limit lines are the responsibility of the county highway dept.  Tell them the paving is done and they should have it painted soon.  Be nice if the DOT paved in a yield merge lane for right turn off 475 to 949 north
.
