Saw a post facebook that C&O 614 in Clifton Forge has been getting some working done such as the front and both cylinders being painted black and the auxiliary water tender being moved in recent days.

Also saw a rumor it was sold. Nobody named yet. “Shrugs”

Will be interesting to find out who the new owner is and what their plans are.

The crazy rumor is that CSX wants the engine.  I don't personally believe this, but the rumor says that they want it to compete with the Union Pacific in that they desire to have more and better public relations.  Well I will believe this when I see it.

I'm not a liberty to say anything quite yet except that things are looking positive for the 614 and I would ask that you be patient a little while longer when details will be released publicly.

   Yes, mechanical work has recently been performed and those upgrades will continue.

Is it currently do for the FRA mandated 15 year boiler re-certification?

It hasn't been fired up to my knowledge since the mid / late 1990s runs on New Jersey Transit.   So I would think its out of date.

I could be mistaken but I believe the last time 614 was under steam was when it was put up for sale while still on NJT property in the late 1990’s. It has since bounced around to the Reading & Northern shops in Port Clinton, Pennsylvania, the VMT in Roanoke, and finally Clifton Forge, Virginia.

Good DVD and videos out there of Ross Rowland's C&O 614 hauling coal in the dead of winter! (In the 1980's I think?)
Also "Chessie Safety Express"

I have one DVD called "Ace of black diamonds" of those moves in winter, one of my favorites!
What a wonderful engine too.

Thanks Ross (C&O614) for all you've done including the American Freedom Train.
(Great in depth coverage here on TO recently, and Y-tube videos on that subject if you search for them)
