Steam & Excursion > Union Pacific 529 steam locomotive in SnoqualmieDate: 09/22/24 10:40 Union Pacific 529 steam locomotive in Snoqualmie Author: GNRocky I had read that the UP 529 that has been out in Snoqualmie Washington at the Northwest Railway Museum for several years has been acquired by the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad and is planned to be moved there for restoration to operation. Does anyone know when this locomotive may be moved or has that already happened? Very exciting to hear this locomotive has a plan at new life to operate. Hoping the other steam locomotives at Snoqualmie stored in their deadline yard might at least be able to get some cosmetic cleanup attention to be preserved in the coming years.

It is a 2-8-0 Posted from iPhone Date: 09/22/24 18:20 Re: Union Pacific 529 steam locomotive in Snoqualmie Author: JDLX Here's an uncredited and undated photo of the #529 not long after arriving in Snoqualmie, and then one I shot of it back in 2014.
Union Pacific sold the #529 to the Edward Hines Lumber Company in 1948, it was the primary power used on the logging railroad running from Seneca east to Summit Prairie in eastern Oregon for about nine years, up until the time the fromer Brooks-Scanlon Alco S-3s arrived from Bend in early 1957. The #529 then spent another eight years languishing in the Hines shop building at Seneca until Hines donated it to the Northwest Railway Museum in 1965, though it was fired up at least once in that time to provide steam heat to a couple buildings in town. Northwest Railway Museum swapped the #529 to Oregon Coast Scenic in exchange for the Great Northern 2-8-0 #1246, which did get moved to Snoqualmie in April 2023. I don't think the #529 has yet left Washington, I seem to remember hearing something about that possible move being a ways out the last I heard anything about it. At one point up there we had 2 - 2-6-6-2s and a
Mike running, times do change. At least the Mike went to a very good new home and is getting excellent care. Out |
