Everett Railroad on the Grade
Author: MaryMcPherson

Everett Railroad #11 got some video love last week, so I slow-walked posting this one.

This is a series of shots of the locomotive tackling the grade on the run from Hollidaysburg to Kladder.  The video opens as the train rounds the curve, crosses the river, and #11 opens up.  I nearly sent Kurt a joke text suggesting that a few wet leaves on the rails would induce a well-timed slip.  I didn't do it.  He wouldn't have done it.  They weren't needed.

That was fun!  That's a stout little engine, and you guys made it look and sound great.

Small engine + heavy train + curves and grade!   BIg shout of congratulations to you guys and the Everett Railroad as well!

The EMD switcher bringing up the rear, Lehigh Valley No. 126, an SW900m (upgraded specs from an SW1), is also a nice touch.  For those who scoff at diesels being tucked in behind steam locomotives on excursion trains, No. 126 could be an acceptable exception, at least once in a while.

Nice job!!

For those that haven’t ridden this line do yourself a favor and check it out. We did last weekend and were thoroughly impressed with the equipment, facilities, and most of all the customer service!

Thanks Mary for the excellent video.
The Everett Railroad was one of the events during the 2018 NRHS Convention. I was the lucky recipient of a cab ride.  Then had a chance to tour the shops and railroad again in 2023.  It's an excellent operation and I'm ready to go back and visit again.

Excellent job! Alan Maples and his team at EV run a fantastic operation. The engine is great too and fits in perfectly on this branchline.

Thanks!

The video was shot on Saturday and Sunday, the 5th and 6th.  We were at the Station Inn the 30th through the 3rd, after East Broad Top and before heading to Strasburg.  We had the B&O suite.

Photos shot with my phone.

Like being there! Thank you for that video. The only thing as nearly perfect as a hardworking steam engine in fall color is a hardworking steam engine in snow, preferably with Christmas decorations.

Our staying there and shooting the N.S. will make for a video on the YouTube channel after getting another project finished.

Wow! Another gem from you folks!
You were right there for that wheel slip, and that chilling whistle-echo sound is marvelous, Great scene compositions too!

Excellent video, really enjoyed the whistle at the grade crossing in the final shot. That engine sure was working hard and sounded great.
