More 4014
Author: skyview

Had not planned on heading out to catch the 4014s run to Denver on the KP line, but an out of town friend who I was to meet on Sunday said "4014 coming, lets do that".  So off east we went, on Monday Oct 21, albeit with a slightly late start.    The first and second shots between Limon, CO and Hugo, CO , while the third at Cedar Point (surpisingly only 4 of us at this spot).

Heading west, stopped at the trestly slated for replacement near Deer Trail, this could be my last shot on this if plans to upgrade go through.  Lastly a shot near Bennett as the train continues west.

As expected, relatively few chasers east of Limon but the closer to Denver the more came out.  Literally 1000s of people looked to be at Strasburg, CO, where the train did a 30 minute stop.  Once beyond Starsburg many people out to see the train.

Im more than a little surprised UP didnt go for a public event in Denver, clearly the interest to see the train was there.

None the less an unexpected outing to see the train again.

You have some beautiful images here.   Thanks for posting these.  It's always great to see UP steam on the high plains.  Heh.  It could be Wyoming.

Many quality images, but my favorite is the last one . Thanks for posting these as it didn't work out for me to chase 4014 on the KP.

That last photo with the cut stone masonry culvert is great--I love those UP culverts--they're artistic and beautiful--set by human hand.  Much better than boring concrete.

As for the trestle, it looks fairly modern, robust and solid.  Why does it need replacing?  It just handled 1.2 million pounds of steam engine!
