Wisconsin Great Northern Owner Behind Bars
Author: Spoony81

The owner of the railroad outfit that is/was restoring the Mark Twain Zephyr will be away for a bit...

Gregory Vreeland, owner of the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad, was sentenced to one year and one day in prison after pleading guilty to failing to pay employment taxes.

Since he didn't learn his lesson after the first time, I have no sympathy for the man.  Hope the equipment, especially the MTZ will be protected.

Work on the MTZ was rolling along and now seems to have come to a crawl and maybe even a halt. I guess we now know why

This is a real strange story, since he makes a small fortune on car storage each year.  And he evidently had no trouble coming up with the back payments that were due.  So it's not like he didn't have the funds to make these payments in a timely fashion.

The way the sentencing works, he'll probably only serve 6 to 9 months.

It's sad what the love of money will do to some people.

Anyone who would risk attracting the attention of the IRS on purpose one time should have their head examined...but twice???

I drove thru Spooner on my way back from Minnesota to North Carolina earlier this summer and it looked like they weren't doing any work on the MTZ.

What I find interesting is that the WGN owns and operates the old DM&IR 250 Ton Bucyrus Erie Crane X-7..

My very first employer got into a pi**ing contest with the IRS and refused to concede his position and ended up serving prison time. I love a fighter, but there are some fights you just are NOT going to win.
