An East Broad Top visit
Author: NB1001

October 17 was my first visit to the East Broad Top running with steam since the railroad has re-opened. Chased the first and third trips. Rode the second trip. Must say that on the ride, every start and stop felt like a body slam. A coupld of shots from the day.

We also took a shop tour. Since the 16 is the only steam engine that runs, the others were in the roundhouse along with Motor Car M-1.

Well done - My favorite is the last one with the fall colors.

VERY nice!  My favorite would have to be #2 with the steam all over the place.

#14 is in the shop being rebuilt - here she is back on September 20th, sharing the backshop with #16 which was getting a hot bearing repaired at the time.

The EBT backshop is an absolutely amazing time capsule - not to be missed if you're in the area!

The narrow gauge railroad with the most standard gauge-looking engines.    I hope to get there in the next few years...

There are only so many places where you can take a photograph in 2024 that cannot be distinguished from a photograph taken 80 years or more ago.  Priceless!

Awesome set of photos, here! You certainly do remember when you get a rough ride like you said, though. An old hogger told me years ago when I started running: “They paid enough money to ride this train, you don’t have to stand em up, and sit em back down when you stop and start— they can do that on their own!!

Look like they could use some lessons in train handling....

I still remember riding trains in the steam era.....late '40s to the end of steam.....while most hoggers could and did operate their trains smoothly, there were plenty (too many) who seemingly could not make a smooth start to save their life.  Then came the diesels, a machine even rough hoggers could operate smoothly.  There is nothing like a start you don't notice, until you see motion when looking out the window.  Even then, it was tough when in a multitrack station.... you see motion and cannot tell if it is your train or the  one you're looking at that is moving....THE definition of smooth.
