Steam & Excursion > Loco 614 & Ross RowlandDate: 11/11/24 08:52 Loco 614 & Ross Rowland Author: wcamp1472 Fellow Steam Lovers......
I'm glad to quash the rumor making the rounds on the foamer underground that the initials RJD of the new owners of the 614 really stand for : “ Ross Just Died” I'm glad to report that I had a lengthy phone conversation with Ross last evening and he is in great shape and VERY pleased with the 614's new owners. Anything else about Ross’s "health" is pure bovine solid refuse…. Wes Camp Posted from iPhone Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 11/11/24 14:46 by wcamp1472. I've been offline all day and as I carry a flip phone I don't see the www until I get back home. I have resisted so far getting a " smart phone" as I have witnessed how addicted to them folks become and that scares me. My darling wife lives on hers and if you want to cause her to have a full blown panic attack just hide her phone when she's not looking.
As Wes posted I'm very grateful to report that I'm still here and enjoying great health despite years of using cigarettes and booze to excess. If I make it to Dec. 14th. 2024 I will celebrate 34 years sober thanks to AA and the good Lord and I finally managed to quit smoking in 2016 ( started as a 15 year old in 1955) after trying to quit a thousand times. I now go faithfully to our local Y early ( 0600) MWF mornings and do a 90 minute workout ( 1 hour treadmill, 30 minutes on 10 machines for upper & lower body) and it does make a difference. I'm 15 lbs. too heavy and struggling to lose that but everything I like a lot ( ice cream, butter, bread, mayonnaise, fettuccine Alfredo, well marbled Angus steak, mashed potatoes etc., etc.) is bad for me so I struggle. As I tell folks who ask how I'm doing I often answer that I'm overfed and under fondled. Truth is always funniest. I'm especially grateful to see my beloved 614 go into such good hands as I know they and Strasburg will see that she gets a world class rebuild resulting in her being a reliable mainline performer well into the future. If you haven't already done so please go to www.co614.com and sign up for the newsletter which will keep you updated on her progress at Strasburg. Onward & Upward. Thanks, Ross Rowland............not the R in RJD Date: 11/11/24 18:50 Re: Loco 614 & Ross Rowland Author: Trainhand Ross, early congratulations on 34 years sober. I'm glad yoythink 614 is in good hands. I hope CEX will use it to promote their bicenntial. I have the same problem if liking steak potatoes and too much fried food.

I used to make homemade bread every week or so. Now that's about how often I eat bread at all (today's was garlic bread with olive oil, Mondays only.) My idea of a great cheat day would be an inch-thick slice of warm bread with butter on it. Never got to try firebox cooking. Seems like it should have been a great way to bake a fast pizza.

Aside from a couple of computers at home, I also carry a portable laptop in the car with private direct wireless access to the Internet via Verizon for whenever I need to do research, photo editing or in-depth communications on the move. Great universal mobility anywhere with a decent-sized screen (... to check my spelling errors !) and a keyboard that I can fit my fingers on. ( Yes... I'm "old," but still very mobile. LOL.)
Greg Stadter Phoenix, AZ Date: 11/12/24 08:21 Re: Loco 614 & Ross Rowland Author: co614 Thanks Greg. I too have a laptop I take on trips with me equipped with a Verizon device that connects me with the www so long as there's cell service where I am. I use it in the motels even though nearly all of them have wifi as the speed is better and more dependable. I obviously don't activate it till I get where I'm going so during the day I don't access the web and that's a welcome hiatus.

Bully for you taking back your life those years ago, and thank you for quitting smoking! I’m 30 years younger than you but being almost 55 and almost 30 years as a Rail hasn’t helped the weight. I’m trying to loose 30 lbs. but keep finding it back. Here’s to many more good years of health and happiness. Hope to meet you at the EBT someday. PS. I agree with the cell phones, but they are a necessity anymore working for a Class One railroad, and being able to look something up on the interweb when working on antique motorcycles is a Godsend.
