Steam & Excursion > Rio Grande recreations over the yearsDate: 11/14/24 12:46 Rio Grande recreations over the years Author: jbwest The C&TS and D&S have been running DRGW recreations for a lot of years now, and I rode and chased many of them. Here is an album of my favorites going back to the very first chartered freight in 1972. A lot of pix here, but maybe a few folks will enjoy 50 years worth of history. Much has changed, but much also remains the same.

It is amazing that the Friends have been able to maintain so many of the old cars in good enough shape to run some really long charters, although the higher and higher cost is making the big charters less and less likely in the future. JBWX Date: 11/17/24 10:33 Re: Rio Grande recreations over the years Author: callum_out I can happily say that Bill is my buddy (assuming he's still alive, been a while) and I can also
say that istory wouldn't surprise me. I mean who else would open a hobby shop in Chama? Didn't have great restaurants but it did have a hobby shop, at least for a while. As for Mr. West and his efforts, absolutely the best! Amazing that recreation and recreation are the same word. Out Date: 11/26/24 13:37 Re: Rio Grande recreations over the years Author: tomstp Bill Peters was quite and fella and modeler. He knew what importers had good running engines and or, poor assemble of brass models. and he made a living correcting those errors. As far as a hobby shop, he did not really have stock of a shop on hand but would order anything. Brass was his main business and gave him the courage to bring in his own Sn3 line of engines, and cars which really were top notch. I think he has slowed down some in his later years.

He certainly made a good example of good models.
