Wow, 1963? How late did they run steam on the Duluth & Northeastern?

This is what I found on No. 27:

DNE #27 - www.rgusrail.com

I was trying to research the Duluth & Northeastern's steam roster, but I haven't found much. Does anyone have a good site? Apparently steam ended in 1964.

Did not the 14 end up in CA on the Fillmore & Western?

D&NE ran steam until 1966.  At that time you could still buy a round trip ticket to ride (six days per week, IIRC) from station at Cloquet to interchange with DM&IR at Saginaw, MN, 10.96 miles.  It once stretched 131 miles on main track, and had 120 empoyees.  WHERE you rode depended upon how good a salesman you were :-)    I've ridden both ends of the train.  Empty wooden frame flat cars (with K-brakes!)  moved to DM&IR, where they were set out in the woods to be loaded with logs, loads moved south to the paper mills at Cloquet. Occasionally, interchanged boxcars were handled, as well.

Identical twin 2-8-0 No. 28 is a 1907 Pittsburgh product, now lettered for her original owner as 332.  Shown here with UP 4014, Ed Dickens, and yours truly on July 21, 2019.

Fredereck G. Harrison's 52 page softcover book Cinders and Timber (c) 1967 does a nice job, with LOTS of pictures.

Please fix your quotes because I didn't say that. That was another person replying to the thread.
