Steam & Excursion > Southern Railway 107 in 1977Date: 01/24/25 11:01 Southern Railway 107 in 1977 Author: MaryMcPherson Here we have a trio of shots George Redmond took of Southern Railway stuffed and mounted at Pigeon Forge in 1977. Fortunately, he shot in black & white... I'm sure the paint slapped all over it was Gawd-awful!
Here's to a bright future for her in Knoxville! The exact date wasn't preserved; just the year 1977.
These photos were taken with cheaper point & shoot cameras; George switched to a pair of 35mm SLR's the next year, and especially those of us in the southern half of Illinois are all the richer for it! One can dream of her doubleheading with sister #154. Date: 01/24/25 11:57 Re: Southern Railway 107 in 1977 Author: Jimbo The 2-6-0 has been on display at the Chattanooga Choo Choo for many years. Both it and the 107 were Smoky Mountain Railroad locomotives that had been at the Smoky Mountain shops in nearby Sieverville. Of course the third ex-Smoky Mountain engine is the 4-6-2 number 110, originally the Little River Railroad 110, now at Pleasant Lake, Indiana.
What is now Dollywood was originally the Rebel Railroad, started by the same people, the Robbins brothers, who started Tweetsie Railroad. The 107 looked like it had been freshly painted in what looked like Southern Railway maintenance of way orange. He did take my pic beside the engine. I wish I could remember what his comments were about that orange paint. He was well remembered for his old 2-8-0 - the 400.

It was out of Pleasant Lake at that time. When the operation moved, I can't say. I'm old enough to remember, ride and photograph it when it ran out of Pleasant Lake. Before that, it ran out of Angola. It moved to Coldwater years ago but has ran on Indiana Northeastern on special occasions. That is why I asked Jimbo. Victor Baird Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s).
