WMSR announces fund-raising for #734
Author: bigsavage

Western Maryland Scenic has announced a joint fund-raising project for 2-8-0 #734, out of service since 2016.
Robert Van Camp, of PBS's Great Scenic Rail Journeys, is matching all donations up to $10,000 to kickstart the campaign for "FIRE UP 734!"

Wow, has she been out of service that long?
She no doubt needs a good bit of running gear work. I remember her sounding kind of lame toward the end back then.
Love the way she looked and sounded.

But will it fit on the turntable?  Lol - kidding.

Great news - the question is, can WMSR afford two operating steam
locomotives running simultanesously.  Let me rephrase that - will it be
viable to have two operating steam locomotives.  No doubt, necessary
for transistion once 1309 nears her 15 year rebuild.

Would be wild to see either make visits elsewhere - as once anticipated
for a Lerro charter with 734 way back.  Hey - CSX, you interested in a
short term loan(s)?

And here is the 34 in the dead line at Marquette on November 9, 1969.
