R&N 2102 Excursion train prepping at 0645
Author: JPB

Check out the live cam at Reading Outer Station as R&N stages today's 2102-led excursion of 16 cars to Jim Thorpe. Train departs Reading Outer Terminal at 0900. The star of the show, 2102, should appear around 0800 or so. Unfortunatley cam has no 12 hour rewind capability...

And 2102 is on its way at 0900 - you can tell it's only 28 degrees outside. Hope the riders on the observation platform are bundled up!

As captured from RBM&N's Reading Outer Terminal live cam.

Is that a working tower? I see people in it.
Wish I was on the train, I'd love to see (and especially hear) 2102 and compare her to my old flame 1522.
R&N is a great outfit and does things first class!

Here's a video I captured in June 2024 of 2102 hauling an excursion up the grade to Mountaintop PA on the ex-Lehigh Valley main. Unfortunately my video doesn't do justice as to how loud 2102 is when it's working hard but ears my hurt wehn it passed!

It serves as the yard office for North Reading. No regularly assigned operator or yardmaster, just crews coming in to get paperwork and do briefings.

BTW, the 2102 excursion is not the only passenger train operating at Jim Thorpe today. The 13 car Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway train that runs through the Lehigh River gorge to Penn Haven just backed into the boarding area at Jim Thorpe at 0955. I believe the 2102 excursion from Reading will pull into the track adjacent to the Gorge train. After patrons have detrained from the 2102 excursion, the train will back out to Nesquehoning Jct to wye the consist for return to Reading departing at 3:45pm.

2102 was a minute early arriving Jim Thorpe and I missed capturing its entrance from the live cam by seconds! But here is 2102 about 15 minutes later backing the consist to the wye to turn the train.
