Steam & Excursion > Auction of NKP 587 HaltedDate: 03/04/25 12:33 Auction of NKP 587 Halted Author: pt199 In a social media post the Steam group said it was halting the sale because it is in negotiations with the locomotive’s owner about paying back storage fees.
Those talks are continuing and Kentucky Steam said it would provide more detail once a settlement has been reached. Kentucky steam had commenced in January a sealed bid auction to sell the 1918 Baldwin-built locomotive as part of a judgment against the owner for unpaid storage fees. The locomotive had once been owned by the Indiana Transportation Museum, which lost possession of it after it was forced to vacate its campus in Noblesville, Indiana. The ITM has since disbanded. Before being restored to operating condition in the 1980s, the 587 had been on static display in an Indianapolis park. It was moved in pieces to Kentucky Steam’s facility in Irvin in 2021.
