4014 Restoration

Did any of the other 7 Big Boys contribute parts to restore 4014? Yes, I know about the tender swap with 3985.

3985 folks said they would get stuff of the local big boy, nothing large i can remember


Think 4014 has new parts made rather than used parts often

Whistle and hot water pump came off 4004 for the 3985 that i know of. I'm sure some other stuff as well. 4014 has 3985's tender, dynamos, numberboards, cab electronics. Maybe some oil burning equipment as well?

There was/is no "hot water pump" on the 4000 series locomotives, nor the 3900 series Challengers. Both were/are equipped with the Elesco Exhaust Steam Injectors, thus no "hot water pump".

I remember reading the front coupler and brake shoes were removed from 4004

Probably not. Last I heard, the current manager has not been happy with the quality of the work being done by the folks in Silvis, thus he is keeping the tender from 3985. The Silvis operation must then overhaul and convert the original tender they have from 4014.

What’s the issue with Silvis? Never heard anything about the quality of the place before?

That means they're making him look bad, go figure how long it took to get 844 back and 4014!
