MTM, those prices bring to mind those that existed back in the 1920's from Alco, Baldwin and Lima. NY Central paid something like $90,000 each for brand new Hudsons from Alco in 1927. Speaking of Hudsons, if we provided blueprints to China, do you think...................???

Then, you'd own an engine located 14,000 miles from where you'd likely want to run it.

I wouldn't mind seeing a QJ running on the Ohio Central....

If the QJ could be made to conform with the newest Federal regs, it would be an ideal excursion engine, with ample power and speed, combined with a light axle loading. These engines were/are used in both freight and pass. services in China. Dare we dream of this....??

What are the differences between the JS and the SY's ? The Susie-Q 142 and K&K engines are SY's, yes?

The NYS&W #142 is definitely an SY class. It's a nice engine, but it's owner doens't give it the TLC that it demands. Btw, 3 yrs. ago the price I was quoted for a restored 1987-built SY was $90k: delivered, refurbished, converted to right-hand operation, painted to suit, and even converted to oil-burning if we (the Empire State Railway Museum) wished.
