Railfair 99 was when the 844 had a flue fail and her the the 3985 went home under tow. I remember the GGRM booth was across from where the 844 was when the incident happened. A lot of the t-shirts, hats, etc. got a nice spotting job from the fallout. I joked to one of our folks working the booth that they ought to raise the prices for these one of a kind railfan items complete with genuine 844 soot. Don't think they did, but I do see someone around the yard wearing one of the spotted hats every now and again. DaveE |
