Steam & Excursion > NRHS convention, 261 and ?

Below is posted on the NRHS convention web site... looks like they're trying to piggyback onto the 261 trip of July 3. Site also lists a un-named steam trip on June 30 and another on July 4... more piggybacking or something else in the works? Jim


The Rails to the Northstar 2004 National Railway Historical Society Convention Committee is working to finalize arrangements for rail trips for the upcoming 2004 convention in Minneapolis. Unfortunately, as of January 29th, 2004, we have not yet received final commitments from some of the carriers and other contractors that will provide trips at our convention.

One event we are negotiating for is a steam powered excursion train from the Twin Cities to LaCrescent, Minnesota, on July 3, 2004. We expect to be able to offer tickets to convention attendees at a lower price than those currently being sold through other organizations. Our convention trip will also include a bus shuttle from the convention hotel to the boarding site and return, and also a box lunch.

We expect to finalize our arrangements with the various carriers in the near future and hope to have the registration materials in the hands of members who have pre-registered within a short time.

Thanks to all the members of the society for your continuing support of the NRHS convention program. We look forward to seeing as all of you in Minneapolis this summer.

It was posted at RYPN that CPR 2816 is doubleheading with 261 on a Grand Excursion trip, perhaps she will make an appearance here as well?

The Northstar NRHS has been slow in announcing the details of the trips. I'm not sure if there is an official link between the NRHS trips and the MILW 261 or if its a coincidence that the 261 Twin Cities trips are running during the same time as the convention. Anyway, other sources on the web have posted details about the 261 trips. The CP 2816 is ANTICIPATED to run with 261 on the July 3 RT from Minneapolis to La Cresent on the CP/Amtrak ex Milw river line. Bob
