The strangest thing happened today....
I was eating a grilled cheese sandwich today and noticed after the first bite that there was an image of the 844 on it!! This is a sure sign that she will be running soon!!!!

I've been eating several more sandwiches in hopes of discovering the disposition of the
PRR #1361, NKP #765, SP #745, and B&M #3713 but no luck on those yet.

If ebay doesn't allow you to sell you 844 sandwich to crazed fans, I guess you can always just finish eating it? I suppose it's best not to waste food, right? LOL

How is 1385 doing these days? Last I heard it was undergoing some extensive work at North Freedom. Any report on progress would be appreciated.

The 1385 was taken out of service in 1998 when its flue time was up. Initially some patches were going to be put in the firebox. Once all of the tubes were removed, a more in depth inspection of the firebox sheets was able to be performed. During this inspection it was found that more work was needed than initially thought. With input from different sources, it was decided to have a completely new boiler made up rather than just put a new firebox on the existing barrel. Now funds will have to be secured since the current cost of the project is over what the initial estimate was. The shop forces have also been working on the Western Coal and Coke #1. This engine is recieving a running gear rebuild, patches in the lower portions of all coarses, new front and rear tube sheets, new smoke box, staybolts as needed and all new boiler studs. The tender will also recieve some attention.
