Steam & Excursion > Western Star Amtrak Steam SpecialDate: 07/06/05 18:29 Western Star Amtrak Steam Special Author: E-21 Well, the train ran - looked pretty darn good and all of the lack of information didn't keep the fans away. Here's a couple from today. Thanks to all involved, especially Amtkrd4man for helping out. The sun even came out here and there.

Union Station to Vancouver, then east to Wishram and back. Date: 07/06/05 22:08 Re: Western Star Amtrak Steam Special Author: 49Fan What an awesome day ! Right off the bat I need to thank, Amtrak and BNSF for their cooperation in today's excursions. The PNWC of the NRHS for hosting this years convention and all of their hard work in putting this excursion and the many other events together. To the crews and voulnteers of the 4449 and 700, a heart felt bravo. The engines looked beautiful. I've known about the 2005 convention being held in Portland for over two years, and looked forward to it for everyday of those two years. The hardwork and dedication that the organisers and voulnteers putforth even in the face of critisism was outstanding. Today was the culmination of alot that hard work. I also have to thank Amtkrd4man for the information he posted here and for voulnteering to pilot the train on his day off. I also had the pleasure of meeting nycman. Jim it was truely a pleasure meeting and you and I hope you enjoyed yourself as much as I did today.....cause I had a blast !

I've got a few more pictures to post but I upped the image size on my digital and now there too big to post and I can't figure out how to make them smaller and post them.....well lets put it this way....there smaller, but now I can't find them. Me and computers - like oil and water....I'm going to bed ! Glad you like the pictures, it was sooo much fun ! Date: 07/06/05 22:53 Re: Western Star Amtrak Steam Special Author: chickendelight Both steam engines look awesome, but I love the way the Amtrak unit just blends in with the rest of the excursion consist, barely even noticeable. Great shots everybody, keep them coming.

I wasn't expecting to catch up to the train again after my first shot at Hood, but there was some sort of delay at North Dalles, so one more chance!

New gallery on the preps for the 2005 NRHS. If the 4449 and 700 were polished any brighter, you would need SUNGLASSES! Take a look at the shot crossing the steel bridge.....GREAT WORK brooklyn crew! Nice to see you at Dunsmuir. I ended up sleeping on the platform waiting for #11 to head back to work the Auburn job on the 4th--no rest for the weary am-hogs!! |
