A DT&I break, sort of...
Author: Gateway97

One of the fun things about railfanning Chillicothe,OH, in the early 1980's was the appearance of the DT&I Waverly Turn about midday to mid-afternoon. By the time I took this shot in May 1985, it was really a GT train, and the locos were renumbered accordingly. But it still has that DT&I color and flavor as the southbound run heads down the B&O just east of Chillicothe headed for a C&O connection and then on to Waverly. I never saw any of the SD38's on the road before this day.

I sat in the Bob Evans right next to the track having brunch when a gaggle of DT&I rolled through town with GT locos. I was shocked to see a train there never the less a DT&I. This would have been 1986 or so.

Yes indeed. And Wendy's- I was there eating when the gates dropped one day in 1982 and DT&I hit the crossing. You were there right near the end of train service on that line, Gonut. It was pulled up in 1987 or 1988, IIRC.

Bob Evans on Bridge Street, before it moved north across the bridge to it's present location. What a great place to eat and watch trains. The main portion of the B & O from Thrifton to Greenfield ceased operation around Fall 1988 and was pulled up in Spring of 1989. There was a short section that ran through Chillicothe past the Wendy's and Bob Evans that lasted a little longer. I think it went to a rock quarry along US 35 west of US 35's Scioto River bridge. There were two Santa Fe dining cars visible from the US 35 in the quarry. Why they were there or where they went I don't know. Thank You, again. I enjoy your stuff.
