Nostalgia & History > CNJ at Ashley, PADate: 08/06/22 10:29 CNJ at Ashley, PA Author: thebluecomet Ashley, PA is just south of Wilkes-Barre and was at the bottom of the famous Ashley Planes. Please do a search if you aren't familiar with the Planes. The engine facility and yard remained in service until the end of CNJ service in PA in 1972.
1. Baldwin road switcher 1206. No date provided. 2. RSD-4 1608. Both photos by Robert L. Eastwood Date: 08/06/22 10:32 Re: CNJ at Ashley, PA Author: thebluecomet 3. A trio of SD's were common road power laying over between trips.
4. A former B&O Baldwin 5. The very modern yard tower. All three here by Charlie Houser, March 1972, just prior to the CNJ pull out from PA. Date: 08/06/22 10:38 Re: CNJ at Ashley, PA Author: thebluecomet 6. A rather rare shot finds a set of Lehigh Valley power entering the yard in August 1972. Charlie Houser image.
7. I first visited the site in May1982 and things simply sat abandoned. The CNJ simply walked away and the LV (or Conrail) didn't spend any time or money on the place. 8. The abandoned roundhouse. May 1982. A recent visit found a few rails in the new tree growth and a new building where the yard throat once was.
