Whatever the question, that I am unable to answer, these huge 4-12-2 steamers were a precursor to the immense Turbines and Diesels UP eventually used on this route.

The first one is definetely Council Bluffs, Iowa looking east. Train is westbound about to cross Missouri River into Omaha.

The second one says Council Bluffs, but it clearly is not. Not sure on actual location, tho. I would guess Utah, since it seems the captions got flipped.
