Klondike in '85

Twenty years ago, in October '85, a westbound Santa Fe intermodal train was rounding the big curve just below Klondike, CA, on the Needles Sub. By the next year, the red caboose bringing up the rear would be gone on most trains.

To bad the equipment used over the years can't remain the same as the view through the desert you captured.Nice photo.

Still the same isolated wilderness to to this day, and it's amazing how long it actually takes a westbound to scale that grade! Man what a sight and what a show!

...and, following on another post, nearly every consist would have an SPSF "Kodachrome" in it.
