Burbank/Canoga Park branch on front page
Author: BobP

The Los Angeles Daily News did another article on the opening of the new busway.
The lead in on the front page has a picture furnished by Jim Walker of a 1960's fan trip about 1/2 mile west of the North Holywood station along Chandler Blvd.

The article also has a "now" photo same spot.

I just walked the path along the new section off Chandler yesterday. I have to admit, it's pretty nice. At least that section anyway. But we'll see how long all those sound walls last without tagging. I guess they're still testing, but it seems like they go by about every 15 minutes. They are NOT quiet at all. I'm sure the people with houses next to it are ready to move already. Out of the two I saw, one was silver, and the other was red.

I hope the NIMBY's are very happy with themselves now, they could have had nice quiet modern electric transit instead of noisey buses.

The fan trip was an Orange Empire Trolley Museum excursion to Ojai on October 12, 1968.

As I recall it also went outbound via the Santa Paula Branch. Quite a bit of now abandoned trackage in one day.

I know a couple of people who made that trip in 1968 and they say it was a wonderful trip.

I've been close to the light rail in Pasadena, and they are less noisy then these busses in my opinion. Plus, you don't have the frequency or fumes either. When the homeowners were successful in getting the court order that halted the bus line temporarily, I think they had already realized the mistake they made at that point. Now they'll have to live with it.

It was a very trip trip, however it did not travel via the Santa Paula Branch.

Correct, the 1968 Orange Empire Trolley Museum excursion to Ojai did not go on the Santa Paula Branch. I rode on the train. The outbound leg was via the Burbank Branch while the return leg was on the main line (also, I still have the flyer that came out before the trip that described this route).

However, on April 4, 1965, the Pacific Railroad Society ran a "Springtime in Solvang" excursion from Los Angeles that appears to have gone on the Santa Paula Branch judging from a photo I've seen.
