D&RGW 5911 w/Small Logo
Author: PZRMN

D&RGW 5911 is shown here in Pueblo, CO., on 1/14/1973. Still wearing the old paint scheme with the small logo.

D&RGW 5911 was built in May of 1955 and retired April 25, 1984.

D&RGW 5911 (with 6 other GP9’s, and the last GP7, 5108) were sold to Mid America Car in Kansas City in April and June 1984 in partial payment for the painting of the 23 ex Conrail GP40s. Sold to Kyle Railways 5911 in July 1984; sold to Railtex in December 1986; to Austin & Northwestern (AUNW) 33 in March 1987; rebuilt to slug by to National Railway Equipment, completed as Missouri & North Arkansas (MNA) 4163.

MNA 4163 does not show up on their current roster, so I am not sure what happened to this engine after that. Maybe someone else will know.

Unless I mis-understood your info, or there was some re-numbering going on that is confusing things, old DRGW 5911 is alive, and NOT a slug. SDIV back when it was a Railtex line, had #5911 that was ex DRGW, when RailAmerica took over Railtex they kept it, and only disposed of the locomotive a few years ago. It is now on the CZRy, privatly owned. I don't know for sure the condition of the locomotive, or how often it runs, but it is still there, and not a slug.

Definately on my "favorites" in locomotive lists, 5911 is a survivor and has been on the Tijuana-Tecate for long time. I remember it on the old "Santa Fe SDIV blue" scheme, back in early 90's, until it was repainted in this horrible yellow, I mean I like it, but it wasn't a good paint job with the lack of details like the rest of SDIV engines (no logo, red lines, etc).

QUESTION: I don't know if CZRY owns it or if they're leasing it from SDIY.

CURRENT STATUS: Either on service on the Desert Line or in Jacumba "Out of Service".

It belongs to a privite individual, who lets the CRZY use it.

Thanks for the info, I was going by Don Strack's info pages and I had not heard anything about the loco. I appreciate the correction and photo.
