If my memory serves me correctly, these units were E8s rather than E9s. I remember when they were rebuilt from B units at the Oelwein Shops.

They actually did both... 502 was a 9 though. I believe there were four 9's and two 8's.

I admire CNW's "engine"-uity, but gosh, you'd think they could have given some consideration to aesthetics. I'm sure in the late '70s-early '80's when these things were built there were plenty of old F-units sitting around that could have given up their cabs and noses.
