Santa Fe's train 594 was headed for Burlington Northern's 31st Street Yard, Denver, CO, finishing its trip January 19, 1984. Trains passed through Denver Union Station until later in 1980's when Platte Rail Corridor shifted freight mains further west. ATSF SD40 5113 led the northbound train.

I didn't realize that Denver Union Station had through tracks at one time. They must have been removed for the light rail or new football stadium.

Major Changes Over the Past 20 Years

Yes, Denver Union Station was the route for Denver & Rio Grande Western, Burlington Northern and Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe trains for many years. Note BN had their intermodal yard behind the DUT tower. BN used it until Rennix Yard was built. BNSF currently operates Denver intermodal operations north of 48th Avenue.

I think the point of origin of this intermodal train was Kansas City.
