In Feb '89 a classic SP consist throttles up for the slight grade between Bena and Sandcut as it heads west toward Bakersfield, CA.

wow, thaz some super elevated ROW there! cool shot JB. The years 1989 and 1990 was the last stand for full nose light packaged SP Roman units...

Man.. thanks for bringing back great memories for me.. I recall camping out at Sandcut many times watching these great lashups roll on by!

That's a 1.1% grade on 50mph track.

I remember when...
After being in Dynamic Braking, since tipping over at Tehachapi, and all the way down the hill to Bena, this was our first opportunity to come out in power, and you see the results...Always a shit load of smoke!
Then, back in to Dynamics just beyond Sandcut all the way to Bakerstown...

And it's about 1% from Sandcut to Bakersfield though the grade lessons as you get almost to the east end of the yard.
