Wooden box car
Author: Butte974

A friend and I recently came across a wooden box car built by the Diamond Match Company and used on the Butte County Rairoad (Later Southern Pacific) between Chico, Ca and the foothill lumber town of Stirling City, Ca. The car, minus wheels is currently used as a storage shed in a petroleum company yard in Chico. The car's exterior is in bad shape but the wood frame, uprights and metal covered roof are in excellet shape and show the craftsmanship used by the company workers. The sad part to the story is the fact no one seems interested in preserving the old car and the owners plan to demolish it soon. The Town of Paradise, also on the old rail line is refurbishing their single story wood depot to house a rail / logging museum. A park will surround the depot but the town says there is no room for the box car. Any suggestions on how we might preserve this piece of rail history will be appreciated.
