Need help with location on CNW/CGW
Author: cnw400

My slide is dated 1967 and I figure the location is somewhere between Mankato and St Paul. There must be a railroad crossing behind the train because of the fixed position signal above the 2nd unit, also a CNW switch stand is visible beside the first covered hopper. Thanks for any help. This is the going away shot. Interesting with CGW F's and a repainted M&StL GP9

I see the image name says south of Albert Lea. Its definately on the old M&StL and looks to me that it might be leaving Montgomery, MN northbound. They crossed the Milwaukee Road there, ie. the fixed signal. This would be my first guess..

A fixed signal...Isn't that a signal that's just been repaired?

I wonder if it was near Hopkins, near Shady Lake.

Very nice pictures, but I question the 1967 date. The C&NW didn't aquire the CGW until July of 1968. It looks like a post CGW/CNW merger photo with CGW power mixed with CNW power.
