Spent many a evening in the late 50's at Silver Spring station watching trains such as the Cleveland Night Express and if I remember a fast eastbound mail train roar through. Rode the Columbian many times(old and new version) during the late 40's and 50's to Chicago. Fond memories of Harpers Fery and Hilltop House as well.
Wound up working for the MP/UP for 30 years and as a consultant for Ferromex for a couple of years. Retired from UP 10 years ago and love living in AZ. Thanks for the memories! Photo 3, I believe the westbound Capitol LImited was due at Silver Spring at approximately 5:15 p.m. Would that disappearing eastbound vestibule be the rear of Train 8, the Shenandoah, which was due through Silver Spring at about this same time?
