one more MP from W TX

The hottest thing on the old T&P line to El Paso was westbound first class train #61, the DFX, the only train actually listed in the MP timetable with TT authority, is shown here just west of Pecos, TX, in Nov 75. This could be just west of just about any town in the first 200 miles west of Ft Worth!

Conrail in Nov 75? I thought Conrail didn't even exist until April 1, 1976. What a scoop that must have been.

Love those west Texas T&P shots. Wonderful railroad and yet so few photos, especially under MP/T&P control.

I vote for sometime after April 1980 on this photo. Check that ex Rock Island GP/38-2 as the rear unit with the name blacked out - this was after the March 28th shut down.

the CORRECTED date as shown above was from a Thanksgiving 1979 trip! One more [of many] mistakes from the old guy!

The lack of trees would not let you use the first 132 west of Ft Worth since it is the Cross Timbers region and full of oak trees all the way to Baird. Baird to past Abilene, lots of mesquite trees. But it would do real good for Sweetwater west.
