Nostalgia & History > Question for L&N fansDate: 02/26/06 21:29 Question for L&N fans Author: FT Way back in 1962 I was on a long trip cross country, as a teen. I spent most of a day walking around
East St. Louis, dumb, even then. Among the many rare units I shot was the then ordinary 807. It was recently pointed out to me that the L&N herald was unusual. All the other F's I shot that day had a metal logo mounted on the nose. This was painted on, and a different style. How common was this? I know TO is more of a western/youngish group, but there might be some old guys like me on here too. Passenger units were painted this way too except blue was substituted for black painted areas.
In the early sixties, maybe late fifties, L&N went to a plain black for freight and plain blue for passenger colors with lettering on the sides and with a round metal L&N plate attached to the nose. |
