One of the last times I shot black and white---Magma Arizona #5 taking water on the way to Magma Junction, June 1967. It was a cool day---only 114 degrees.

You caught her shortly after she came out of the shop Drew. I was there 2 months before & they were using 7. Look how nice & clean 5 was then. Engineer was Lee Jeter & the fireman was a guy named Stirling Tucker IIRC. 7 had a little taller drivers & would get a roll on better out on the flat, but the 5 was built for the Magma by Alco & was really powerful. Glad that you got out to Superior & thanks for taking the trouble to share this.
The railroad called this location Desert Wells. A machinist named Alary drove me out there one Tuesday morning to photograph the train.
