Nostalgia & History > interesting power combosDate: 04/21/06 22:04 interesting power combos Author: choochoocharlie A few shots of interesting and mixed power.
1 - SP 8361 leads SP 9253 - BN 7919 - DRGW 3082 - and ex Mopac #3035 with the LABRF out of Eugene yard headed to Brooklyn after a crew change at the "ice dock" on the mainline. 2 - Willamette and Pacific units #2304 "CORVALLIS" - 1852 and the 2315 "WILLAMINA" with the WP "hauler" leave Eugene yard back when it was still a busy railyard. An SP eastbound freight is getting ready to leave soon to the right in the background in the departure yard. Date: 04/21/06 22:15 Re: interesting power combos Author: choochoocharlie 1 - SP 7360 - UP 3652 and CSX 6154 lead a westbound thru Eugene headed for the hill. The 7360 was added at Eugene yard. The SP SD 45 rebuild #7513 was also added at Eugene. It is bringing up the rear of the train as a helper, shoving on a UP caboose.
2 - I know the rules said that when using a switcher, such as an SW1500, in the power consist, it should be placed no further back than as the second unit. But what happens when you have four of them (2543 - 2496 - 2454 - 2474) and one SD40 (8475). Here is what SP did on an eastbound freight in the Santa Barbara yard waiting for a westbound train. Also in the train were 5 flat cars with army tanks on them. C.C.Chas. Date: 04/21/06 22:51 Re: interesting power combos Author: KentonLineFoamer Charles,
Thanks for sharing these. It is always nice to see your photos from Eugene back when SP was king of the Valley. After watching a few trains today in town lead by GE locos with ditchlights, that SD40 with full light kit looks that much more amazing. The LABRF lash-up is amazing. A consist never to be seen again. Thanks again for sharing. -Kyle Weismann-Yee Date: 04/22/06 13:27 Re: interesting power combos Author: UPNW2-1083 It's sad to think that all four railroads depicted in your first photo are all but a memory now. Nice shots, keep 'em coming.-BMT
