Can someone provide some more details on that? (date, exactly where, what happened?) I read briefly once about an incident where lead power began braking but R/C helpers kept pushing and piled up the train... is that this?

The best of my knowledge, they had a de-railment with the Tank Train (Bakersfield to Dolores)
in the 1980's near Lancaster, CA. I guess the radio communication failed and then they
derailed half the train. After that, the Locotrol experiment was cancelled over the Tehachapis.

I can remember that when I was visiting New Mexico I used to see a joint SP/ATSF Coal train
that went through Belen, NM with a Santa Fe SF30C and two SP Tunnel Motors and then in the
middle of the train they had another SF30C and two more SP Tunnel Motors.

Have a good day.
