Nostalgia & History > Feather River Tunnel 12; What happened to it ??Date: 05/17/06 10:44 Feather River Tunnel 12; What happened to it ?? Author: Yarddogh This would have been a short 50 footer that existed at
one time just east of that truss bridge west of Pulga. It's not there now. - Was it daylighted? Collapsed and had to be cleared. No one familiar with The Canyon, former employees . . the guys at Portola, etc. seem to know. On the return trip of the recent excursion . . Tunnel 12 was even 'called' by the host . . but no, that was Tunnel 11 . . because there is no longer a T-12. Thanks. 'Dogh Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/24/09 12:50 by Yarddogh. It was daylighted in 1983. - Those of you who don't have any of his excellent railmaps of western states should check out his website at: http://www.djcooley.com . They are timetable sized with significant MPs and landmarks noted along the way. Well worth $16. 'Dogh Date: 05/17/06 12:28 Re: Feather River Tunnel 12; What happened to it ?? Author: hepkema It was wooden and was there to carry a spring-fed creek and storm runoff over the tracks. It's one of the ex-WP items that Omaha saw the need to do away with as soon as possible after the merger. There is now a big concrete wall and pipe to catch the water and route it under the tracks. The first time people saw Tunnel 12, they would usually refer to it as a showshed. We called it "the water tunnel".
