Nostalgia & History > Harry S TrumanDate: 05/18/06 10:44 Harry S Truman Author: john7968 KCS has a "business car" named Harry S Truman on display at the south side of their KCS Building in Kansas City, the car is protected by a roof, and appears to be part of a park of some sort.
Anyone know the origins of the car ? Date: 05/19/06 15:30 Re: Harry S Truman Author: CZ10 A websearch shows that the car is a 1928 Pullman. Articles say it was used on Truman's 1948 compaign. If it was, it would not have been the car that Truman rode in. Truman rode in "US No. 1", the Ferdinand Magellan which was placed into official US Presidential service in 1942. The Magellan is armored plated w/bulletproof windows. It has been designated a national landmark, and is on display at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum. More info may be found at the museums website: http://www.goldcoast-railroad.org/magellan.htm

I think the car is the ex-KCS HW business car the former KaySee. Truman rode in the car after he left the Presidency. See the Apr 2003 issue of TRAINS. Bob |
