Great Northern Fans, Need a location, Please
Author: yardclerk

Here is F7 353C and an E unit posted by Larry Johnson in the ABPR newsgroup.

Does anyone recognize this location?

Any info appreciated.

I can't make out the flags on the buildings, but the Consolidated Motors "Limited" building makes my guess Vancouver, B.C.

I can tell that the flags on the right side building are not US flags so possibly they are BC flags. Not the Maple Leaf.

I think Canada adopted the red/white maple leaf flag quite late, maybe 1967, their centennial?

Ah, Google! Present Canadian flag was adopted on February 15, 1965. Now, when did GN start using the simplified paint?

Yard,

This could be Winnipeg. There are listings for a Consolidated Motors Limited there. This is also a listing for a Consolidated in Vancouver also. The E's however were used more out of Minneapolis and Grand Forks for the Manitoba trains and the Duluth trains.

I can't think of a building like the one in the background in Vancouver, so I'd guess Winterpeg too. I haven't been there in ages, so can't really say with any authority though.

The flags look like the Union Jack that I believe was used as the Canadian flag on land prior to 1965. Canadians please confirm! I would definitely say Winnepeg also.

That flag on the tall building looks like the Manitoba provincial flag and Winnepeg is the provincial capital
