SP's Del Monte, April 29, 1971, the next to the last trip---GP9 #3002 leading as the train crossed the Pajaro River Bridge South of Castroville.

One of my favorite SP passenger trains. I've enjoyed all the images that you've posted of this one.

That's the Salinas River. The Pajaro River is 26 miles up on the Coast Line from that location.

Sorry Sam, my mind was in nuetral.

It had two units as it was a longer than normal train with the end near. It had the two normal lightweight cars as well as four of SP's "subs" in the consist.

I remember once seeing this train a couple of months before this with a 3200 and 2 cars, one coach and a lounge all packed with commuters heading home after work.

I guarantee you didn't see an SDP45 on this train
