That branch replaced another branch that left just west of Canon City that headed up a canyon very prone to flooding.

This is Texas Creek, and this is where the Westcliffe Branch line started. Back in the days of yore, this must have been a great place to watch and listen as the little mountain bred steam locos fought, snorted and churned their way up the sides of that gulch and on south to the Wet Mountains Valley. The concrete feet are the remains of the water tank that was at Texas Creek on the mainline. Con Con |
