Was going through a few pics and came across this one of B&O on the Mo-Pac Tracks in Cahokia, Il June 12, 1982

Darn RARE paint for that unit, at that date. Twenty years old, or there abouts. I saw them being delivered to the B&O proper (as their "6900" class), Chicago, on the B&OCT, after a transfer from the IHB to the B&OCT's "Barr Yard" in Blue Island. Santa Fe units, too.

Uh...are you sure that shot wasn't taken in 1992???

4253 is that unit's CSX number and the covered hoppers in the photo sure look like they're painted CSX as well. The fact that the class lights are blanked over is another dead giveaway that we're looking at a CSX era photo.

Typo on my part it was in 1992. either need more light when I type or more sleep before I do! Thanks for catching that. Edited my original post.

I can't remember what year that thing was repainted into the sunburst scheme but I know it didn't last more than a couple of years after you shot it. Nice catch...

The 4200's were GP30m's, none of which were converted to road slugs (they only used
the unrebuilt GP30's in the 4000-4100's as part of the slug program). 4253 is now
at the B&O Museum, wearing her original B&O number, 6944.

And I agree, she does look a mess; but if you think she looks bad, how about their passenger cars of which I have attached one for referance? Here is the last surviving "Food Bar Coach" #3000 sitting at the B&O R.R. Museum rusting away. Sad, and they will NOT paint or repair any of their few genuine B&O passenger cars.
